World Oceans Day 2022

Are you a nature lover?

Do you love snorkelling, diving or walking along the beach?

Have you ever seen a fish or marine life that you could not identify?

If your answer is YES, then join us this World Oceans Day as we explore and expand our knowledge about species living around us.

Every year, Reef Ecologic celebrates World Oceans Day through different activities that engage and inspire people to take action for our oceans. This year, join us in yet another exciting event!

Introducing ReefBlitz 2022!

From June 1 to 8, we are inviting you to go out and record observations of marine life in the Great Barrier Reef using iNaturalist. Take up the challenge and become a citizen scientist for the day as part of ReefBlitz. Perhaps you will photograph and record a new species for your area or for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. We will share daily updates on species and naturalists!

How to participate?
You can participate in 4 easy steps:

  1. Download and install iNaturalist app on your phone.*
  2. Create a free account on iNaturalist.
  3. Take photos and upload them to iNaturalist (web or phone).
  4. Follow us on our social media for event updates.

If you are new to iNaturalist we have prepared a fun training video here.

What is iNaturalist?

iNaturalist is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

It is a global database of observations and sightings of different aquatic and terrestrial fauna and flora. iNaturalist is a collaborative citizen science tool that helps us expand our knowledge of species and their distribution.
