A local company creating ripples of change

Ten years ago, Reef Ecologic Pty Ltd was conceived to make a positive difference for people, coral reefs and the planet. Supported by passion, teamwork and excellence it has been challenging through COVID, lack of resources, coral bleaching and crime waves.

Reef Ecologic is a certified B Corporation, striving to help create a better planet for all. A B-Corp certification measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact, scoring on their governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.

Reef Ecologic was initially certified in 2020 with an impact score of 97.5. Four years later, the impact score has increased to 108.6. There have also been several BEST FOR THE WORLD Awards. To put this into perspective, a score of 80 qualifies a business for B Corp certification, and the median score for ordinary businesses is 50.9. There are one certified B Corporations in Townsville, 80 in Queensland, 989 in Australia and 8,772 in the world. On 30 June 2023 there were 2,589,873 actively trading businesses in the Australian economy.

Surprisingly we have higher scores for the environment than global companies with billions of dollars or revenue such as Patagonia at 40.4. So, a small company really can make a global difference”
